Race Report - The Great North Run - 2015
The Great North Run, its in the north and its GREAT!
This was the second time I have ran this race and I love it. The crowds are amazing!
This year, I was running to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK and so far, I’m over£500! Awesome and huge thanks to everyone who donated.
I went into this run with very little training, due to cycling accidents and injuries, I haven’t had the opportunity to train. This was a big worry and I really didn’t think I would be able to complete the distance, so the plan was to take it steady.
Based on last years time, I was placed in a start pen that was right at the front! The only people in front of me were the club runners and the elites.
Because your start pen is based on your run time, I was in a large group of people running at the same pace, which got a little boring, last year I was running through all the slower runners which gave me a bit of a boost.
Everything was going well, pace was steady and I didn’t have any leg pain, however, around 10k in I could feel the mother of all blisters forming on my baby soft feet. I was running in 1000 mile socks, I’ve used them for 10k runs and they have been okay, for some reason, today was different. I just ploughed on and tried to ignore it.
Again, the crowds lining the course were amazing, people with flags and signs of support, people giving out sweets and ice lollies, there was even an Elvis impersonator singing! awesome.
I finished the race in01:36:15, a few minutes slower than last year, but I felt a lot stronger. I feel like I could have gone a little quicker!
